Hi, thanks for the nomination. I was out of town when it happened and just saw it this morning when I logged in. I think I'd like to try my hand, but given that I only spend about an hour a day or less on the Wiki I don't know how much I can contribute. I'll let you guys be the judge, but generally I think I'm interested.

I take back my earlier comments. I'm a SQL expert, and having access to SQL would be very useful to me. Why? Well I'd like to fix the Wanted page to filter out links from article histories, and I'd like to add a function to the Contributions page so it only lists any particular article once. I could experment with these off-hourse to get some performance estimates and then submit them if they work.

Oppose

  • Oppose only until editor accepts nomination. Otherwise support as editor seems to be a very good contributor. - Taxman 16:57, Nov 16, 2004 (UTC)
  • Oppose pro forma until the candidate accepts the nomination and stands ready to address voter's questions and concerns. -- Cecropia | explains it all ® 17:25, 19 Nov 2004 (UTC)
  • Also pro forma until acceptance of the nomination and an answering of the questionnaire. Geogre 20:14, 19 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Comments

  • I really wish uc would stop flooding RfA with noms... BLANKFAZE | (что??) 00:38, 16 Nov 2004 (UTC)
    • Well take that up on the talk page in the discussion specifically abou that, but in any case, why? If they are good candidates I don't see a problem. If a large number of clearly unqualified candidates are nominated, then maybe there is a problem. - Taxman 16:57, Nov 16, 2004 (UTC)
    • I really wish people were being asked if they like to be nominated first. It is a common curtesy, (and I thought it was a rule). func(talk) 17:38, 17 Nov 2004 (UTC)
    • I really wish there were a mandatory quorum for RfA votes. Most of us who oppose the 12-a-week admin nominations just aren't voting, I think. Shouldn't there be some (even miserably small) minimum? Not one ill word to say about this candidate, just a concern over the "everyone's an admin" thing that I don't feel strongly enough about to join the talk page polemics over. Questions for the candidate
A few generic questions to provide guidance for voters:

1. What sysop chores, if any, would you anticipate helping with? (Please read the page about administrators and the administrators' reading list.)
A. Well this is my main concern: I don't know. I think I would continue reverting vandalism, and a tool to do that would be helpful, but I honestly don't know how much I would be adding to the Wiki in general in doing so.
2. Of your articles or contributions to Wikipedia, are there any about which you are particularly pleased, and why?
A. All of my longer historical ones I suppose. It's precisely the ability to write as much as is needed that I think make the Wiki unique.
3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and will deal with it in the future?
A. I've only been in one event like an edit war, it was over something to do with Tesla. In the end I begged the author to actually read my edits, and I guess he agreed with them because he stopped the reversions. I don't think I've ever been stressed out by the wiki.
