Talk:Weight average molecular weight

As written on Sep 30, 2004: "Intuitively, if the weight average molecular weight is w, and you pick a random monomer, then the polymer it belongs to will have a weight of w on average."

<--- this is not intuitive... I'm a student, and I always have problems with that kind of statement. Is there a link to a mathematics section on different methods of averaging to better explain this? --ChicagoGuy321 06:16, 30 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Agreed. It's not intuitive. I'll try to write something better.

Difference between WAMW and NAMW

This pertains to both this page and the number average molecular weight page. The expressions indicated on the two pages describe the exact same thing. If you divide the numerator and denominator of the series on this page by $M_{i},$ , it's the same as the series on the NAMW page. I don't think this is correct, considering there's also a page devoted to the polydispersity index, which is defined to be WAMW/NAMW, and would always be equal to 1 if the pages here are correct.
