[edit]I removed these comments that someone had added to the article:
The fight's outcome proved to affect the rest of Taylor's career, as he himself has admitted at several interviews after the bout.
Sadly, like so many boxers, Taylor's boxing career left him a sick man. He suffers from pugilistica dementia and brain damage.
First of all, Taylor denies that he has any after-effects of his loss to Chavez, other than believing the stoppage was bad and that he would have won the fight. He has even pointed out that he went on to win another title and defended it successfully more than once.
If you need proof, here's part of the text of a recent HBO article that can be found online: But in the eyes of many Taylor paid a heavy price. A lot of guys will tell you he was never the same. He disputes it and makes a reasonable argument, asking how he was able, then, to go up in weight and win another world title (the WBA welterweight title from Aaron Davis). "The Chavez fight didn't ruin me," he said. One fight doesn't ruin you."
Secondly, it is the opinion of most that Taylor does suffer ill health today, but he also denies this, and there is no incontrovertible proof that he does, as he refuses to take medical tests to determine the issue. I was aware of this issue when I originally wrote the article, but left it out for this reason. user:Jsc1973
How is he (Meldrick Taylor) now?
[edit]I have never used a chat/ conversation/ bulletin board before... I'll keep searching for news, and I'll check back to see if anyone knows more about Mel.
Sincerely, A Boxer's Fan

[edit]Somebody changed the whole article so that it was about a Samoan fighter named Maselino Francis Masoe. I just restored it to a previous version that actually reflected Meldrick Taylor.
