How to request a new spoken article?
[edit]How is the best way to go about requesting a new spoken article that will get the most attention in hopes someone will create one? The written article in question already has a spoken article but it's from 2010, so obviously the article in question has changed a lot since then. As such I don't think it would fall under a spoken article request, as this seems to be for pages that don't already have a spoken version (although I may be wrong here so clarification would be helpful). Also, the original uploader has been inactive on Wikipedia and other related projects for years, so I can't ask them to make a new version, nor do I think I'm comfortable recording myself. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks. Helper201 (talk) 04:55, 12 June 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Helper201, if Category:Spoken Wikipedia requests doesn't get enough attention you could post the name of the article here or ask on a relevsnt WikiProject. You will find a list of WikiProjects on the article's talk page. Commander Keane (talk) 17:51, 17 July 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Commander Keane and thank you for the recommendation. The article in question is Avril Lavigne. Helper201 (talk) 11:51, 19 July 2024 (UTC)
- Here. If there's any issues best to let me know on my Commons talk page. It gets a bit louder at around 2:30 (one could normalize it if needed). Prototyperspective (talk) 00:11, 19 November 2024 (UTC)

See also section
[edit]When reading an article and assuming the article has one, how should someone address the see also section and should it (alongside similar categories like references and external links) be read when listing the sections/contents of an article? Atamanashi (talk) 04:48, 2 September 2024 (UTC)
- The suggestion at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Spoken_Wikipedia/Reading_guidelines is that categories should be ignored, and references and external links should simply note their existence. I'd put the See Also in the same bucket and just note its existence. meamemg (talk) 18:58, 19 September 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks, I have already made a recording and I simply acknowledged them. Thanks for the reassurance. Atamanashi (talk) 19:57, 19 September 2024 (UTC)
Outdated recordings
[edit]I noticed that someone removed Spoken Wikipedia from an article due to "Outdated file (from 2010)". Is this a valid reason to remove Spoken Wikipedia from an article? Is there a wider effort to remove these old audio recordings, as opposed to updating them or adding notices/categories/requests to have them updated?
The file in question is here: File:En-4chan-article.oga. The beginning of the recording clearly states the date it was recorded, so even if someone goes straight to listening to the file and doesn't read the file page, listeners would still be aware that the file is outdated.
My personal opinion is that removing outdated content is counter-productive, as leaving content there with a notice or category is much more likely to result in the content being updated, whereas removing it may result in the article never having that content again. However, 2010 is very old, and this is the first time I have encountered a removal of Spoken Wikipedia, so I'm not totally sure what to do here. Heddy10 (talk) 23:36, 9 October 2024 (UTC)
- I think this removal is fine (combination of subject and number of years that it's outdated) and you could add the newer audio to the article. Prototyperspective (talk) 17:09, 18 November 2024 (UTC)
similar one-editor WikiProject
[edit]Wikipedia:WikiProject Wikipedia spoken by AI voice — Fourthords | =Λ= | 14:51, 28 November 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, it's a new WikiProject. Please sign up if you're interested. Maybe it would be good to wikilink it from See also. Prototyperspective (talk) 15:05, 28 November 2024 (UTC)
- By the way, I'm not okay with introducing a new WikiProject as "one-editor" WikiProject – it's new and many if not most new WikiProjects started with one editor. The audios have around 7000 plays now despite that they currently aren't embedded in ENWP. Human-spoken audios are great but approaching only 2000 of >6 million (and many of these outdated by a decade). If anybody here would like to participate in this project and needs help with the setup or the audio-creation process, just let me know and I'll help you out. Guidance on removing recordings
[edit]Please see [1] (link at Commons) for an editor wishing for their recordings to be deleted. Can "donations" be undonated?--☾Loriendrew☽ ☏(ring-ring) 16:11, 10 December 2024 (UTC)
- In principle, they can but they don't need to be if requested by the uploader or creator. Currently however, it can't be deleted per c:Commons:INUSE. Prototyperspective (talk) 16:37, 10 December 2024 (UTC)
