[edit]I found it strange that this sort of categorization did not yet exist. How else does one group samurai, ninja, ashigaru, sohei, and yamabushi? The same logic could apply to just about any culture's military history, and I might have to go do something similar to create groupings for Vikings, Scottish rebels, Germanic tribes etc... or knights, crusaders, Teutonic Knights, etc...
If anyone thinks this sort of category is unnecessary, a poor idea, or already existing under a different name, please let me know.

[edit]while not as famous as the rest, the foot infantry was an important segment of the Japanese warrior culture.
