[edit]Løgtingið is the word Løgting together with the definite article neuter -ið. If you'd follow this convention, you'd have also to write Folkentinget instead of Folketing. I know, the homepage of Løgtingið calls itself THE parliament, but we would confuse the readers to mix Scandinavian definite articles case-by-case without explaination.

- I created the stub and picked the name based on the one used for the official site. This is the prefered format, thank you for pointing it out. -- Mic 10:23, Apr 12, 2004 (UTC)
Reorganising subnational legislature categories
[edit]This article is listed under Category:Dependency legislatures. It is proposed to either merge this category with Category:Legislatures of subnational entities by reassigning the categories OR to make it a subcategory of Legislatures of subnational entities. To contribute to the discussion, please go to: Category talk:Dependency legislatures Adz 08:12, 2 November 2005 (UTC)
- actually, the more I think about it, I think it would be better just to make it a subcategory, because dependencies are a special type of subnational entity, and it would prevent the other category from getting cluttered in future. Adz 08:12, 2 November 2005 (UTC)
- The Faroes are no "subnational" entity but a nation within the Danish Kingdom. May this article help, to understand it ;-) Arne List 11:14, 7 December 2005 (UTC)
Note to the sources
[edit]Much of the text is copied out of the Løgting folder of 2004 and the Faroese post's text for the stamp edition of 2002. Both texts are considered as to be public domian. However, the German article bases on the same folder (or let's say: this standard text was issued many years before anonymous in a tourist brochure about the Faroes) and was in the beginning just a translation of it into German - growing from time to time according to further informations. I think, the copied sources are in good English (why should I re-translate this standard-text of the Løgting into English? ;-)), but the parts written by me (after the Faroese Løgting book of 2002), propably not. So feel free to correct it. -- Arne List 15:04, 7 December 2005 (UTC)
Letters of the parties
[edit]At the elections each party has a certain letter, which is also used on posters for the campaigns. For example writes Fólkaflokkurin XA, which means "make your cross at letter A".
A | is Fólkaflokkurin | F | is Framburðsflokkurin | K | crossbench / Hin Stuttligi Flokkurin1 |
B | is Sambandsflokkurin | G | is Miðflokkurin | L | is Framsóknarflokkurin |
C | is Javnaðarflokkurin | H | is Verkamannafylkingin | M | is Frælsisfylkingin |
D | is Sjálvstýrisflokkurin | I | is Vinnuflokkurin | N | is Sosialistiski Loysingarflokkurin |
E | is Tjóðveldisflokkurin | J | is Loysingarflokkurin | O | is Hin Føroyski Flokkurin |
This table is listed on this site. However, there are several errors on the list. This is largely due to the fact, that in the past a letter could jump from one party to another if the former party was dismantled.
I don't remember all the letters myself but here's what I know for sure:
A: Hin føroyski fólkaflokkurin - Radikalt sjálvstýri
B: Sambandsflokkurin
C: Føroya javnaðarflokkur
D: Sjálvstýrisflokkurin
E: Tjóðveldi (pre-2007: Tjóðveldisflokkurin)
F: Kristiligi fólkaflokkurin, Føroya framburðs- og fiskivinnuflokkur (Christian people's party, The Faroese progress- and fishing industry party) (abbreviated KrF or KrFFFF)
G: numerous parties, amongst others Socialistiski loysingarflokkurin and Hin føroyski flokkurin
H: Miðflokkurin (maybe some other's in the past)
I: Verkamannafylkingin
J: Frælsisfylkingin
K: Hin stuttligi flokkurin
I'm not sure where the other parties belong precisely, but this is what I know for sure. The present holders of the letters were all present in the 1994 elections, except for Hin stuttligi flokkurin. Kristiligi fólkaflokkurin was dismantled after their poor election in 2002. Mulder1982 (talk) 13:49, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
