[edit]Someone added "Vulkani Institute" to the list. Well, their web site [1] calls them "Volcani", with and O and a C, so this is how we need to call them too. But more importantly, does this institute really give degrees? I can't find any mention of that in their site. If it doesn't, than it should be listed on the list of universities in Israel. Pure research institutes which don't give degrees don't belong here. Nyh —Preceding undated comment added 09:50, 21 March 2004.
Despite trying hard, I couldn't find any evvidence that the Volcani Institute is an institute of higher learning, in the sense that it gives out degrees. Pure research bodies which have no teachers and give no degrees do not belong in a "List of universities" - it's really hard to stretch the definition of university this far. If you know that Volcani does give degrees, please respond here. Nyh 20:43, 22 Mar 2004 (UTC)
Requested move
[edit]- I suggest moving the article to List of universities and colleges in Israel. Israeli colleges can also hand out graduate degrees, are only secondary in their inability to hand out doctorates. The title is already the standard for Canada, US, and UK. Leaving the name as universities is misleading. --Shuki 21:17, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
I propose Machon Lev should be Included
[edit]... just I wouldn't know where to put it myself... so... someone who knows more about it might come in handy. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 201.141.246.43 (talk • contribs)
- already exists: Jerusalem College of Technology --Shuki 13:31, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
I propose that someone define the Difference Between University and College
[edit]at the beginning of the page since some people as myself don't know or think there is a difference anyway or could use an exact deffinition handy when studying this page of Wikipedia.
An encyclopedia should always start an article by defyning. You may not ever expect the reader to "know" since an encyclopedia should be made for all readers, even a "Ribi Shimon Bar Yochai" kind of person who lives in a cave and has no contact with the outside world except for that mere encyclopedia. Maybe in the "discussions" page you can just say things but in the article itself it should all be made "for dummies". Alexander —Preceding unsigned comment added by 201.141.246.43 (talk • contribs)
- A univeristy is an educational entety approved by CHE to use the name University withing its name between the major points to get this title
- The major difrences between an acdemic college and a univercity would be :
- univercity is allowed to provide Dr. degree.
- majorety of resarches will be funded by the goverment and tax payers money
- will provide at least 4 types of M.Sc degeree109XXX (talk) 14:16, 4 May 2012 (UTC)
Inclusion of colleges and universities in the occupied territories
[edit]If such institutions, such as Ariel University, are to be included this list should be retitled. List of Israeli universities and colleges could work or List of universities and colleges in Israel and the occupied territories would also work. nableezy - 18:42, 20 January 2010 (UTC)
Some of the universities and colleges are not located in Israel, if no one objects to it I'm gonna move the article to: List of Israeli universities and colleges. --Supreme Deliciousness (talk) 20:44, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
- That was in 2010, before Ariel was declared a university. I wonder which university you two Palestinian nationalists were considering "not in Israel" back then. 80.178.13.204 (talk) 23:02, 23 October 2014 (UTC)
- They are all in Israel.101.160.24.117 (talk) 17:19, 26 January 2016 (UTC)
- The move was undone so I've moved it back to Israeli universities rather than deleting those outside Israel. Sepsis II (talk) 22:58, 28 June 2016 (UTC)

Status of Ariel University
[edit]The lede still states that Ariel University is accredited by the Council for Higher Education in Judea and Samaria although that body was disbanded. The Knesset passed a law to accredit Ariel with other Israeli institutions through the CHEI back in February, 2018.[2][3] Did the CHEI refuse to comply with the Knesset law? Or is that information just out of date? (Not feeling very WP:BOLD this morning -- haven't had my coffee yet.) --Eliyahu S Talk 10:29, 18 March 2020 (UTC)
disambiguation in "List of Israeli universities and colleges"
[edit]Please note that the following has nothing to do with accreditation of Ariel. At the top of List_of_Israeli_universities_and_colleges there is a statement that can be understood as 10 universities + Ariel =11. Namely, "In addition," would be understood as "+". "There are ten universities and 53 colleges in Israel, which are recognized and academically supervised by the Council for Higher Education in Israel. In addition, Israel founded a university in Ariel..." In the table further on, listing the universities, I can count only 10, including Ariel. 132.68.16.159 (talk) 15:34, 16 February 2022 (UTC)
The Open University now awards doctorates
[edit]As of Feb 2022, the Open University is authorized by the CHE to confer doctoral degrees, in education at first and later in other fields.

I think the page needs to be updated to reflect this change. 93.172.202.57 (talk) 09:38, 9 July 2022 (UTC)
