Notability
[edit]Moved from Talk:Daniel C. Boyer (writen by User:Wwheeler)
Hey! I have read "A History of Mathematics". It's great!
Keep that "He was the grandfather of Daniel C. Boyer" garbage out of there. This guy was basically Non-notable and this article should probably be AfD'd, it's even worse to have this guy's grandson, who is totally non-noteable, insist on putting his own name in the article. Now if you don't mind, I'm off to edit Cyrus McCormick to say "He was the grandfather of the cousin of the uncle of Descendall" --Descendall 05:28, 3 March 2006 (UTC)
I do not agree that he was non-notable. Columbia University has an award in his name, and he did make contribute to the history of mathematics (A History of Mathematics is a useful source for anyone writing about it here). P.L.A.R. 22:23, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
I can't believe anyone would say such a thing of Carl B. Boyer. Who cares about his grandson? I read his book called "The History of calculus and its conceptual development". In my opinion, anyone who calls himself a professor of mathematics without having read this book is a fraud! Boyer was an original thinker and a man of profound intelligence. None of the Wiki puppets and fools who run this site are in any position to criticize his work. 66.60.241.7 (talk)
I also want to agree with the above comment regarding notability. Boyer was one of the foremost historians of mathematics in the twentieth century, if not the foremost. His book on the history of calculus is a classic work, which should be read by every mathematics major. It's amusing that anyone would suggest removing this article because Boyer isn't notable enough when Wikipedia is filled with articles about thousands of two-bit rock bands that nobody cares about.
