Wilhelm's children

[edit]

The section relating to the naming of this mountain seems to be erroneous: "... named the four highest peaks of the Bismarck Range after Kaiser Wilhelm and his four children: Ottoberg, Herbertberg, Mariaberg and Wilhelmberg" Neither Wilhelm I or Wilhelm II had children of these names.

I have checked the reference from the Lonely Planet guide and it says "... the party saw the Bizmarck Range and Zöller named its four highest peaks after the German chancellor and his children: Ottoberg, Herbertberg, Mariaberg and Wilhelmberg." You're are right in that Wilhelm II the Emperor (not chancellor) at the time did not have children named Otto, Herbert or Maria, so I have removed that piece of information. The question is why does LP guide tell us this? Nomadtales 06:06, 19 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Because it is correct. They are named after the Chancellor, Otto von Bismarck and his three children Herbert, Marie and Wilhelm. The Bismark Range itself was also named after the Chancellor of course. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bduke (talkcontribs)
Ahha, makes sense now. The confusion was that I thought it must have been the Kaiser and not Bizmarck. Thanks for clearing that up. Nomadtales 06:52, 19 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It does seem plausible, but the article on the Bismarck Range stated that Mt Wilhelm was named after the Emperor, but unsourced, so I have removed it. I can not find a better reference. I have a few old books around the house on PNG but they do not seem to talk about the origin of names. This needs a better source for both articles. --Bduke 07:19, 19 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I would not rate it B class as its missing info on geology and geography. RedWolf (talk) 16:34, 26 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
