Maestro

[edit]

Sennheiser added the Maestro heading and moved this from his user page to his talk page

Hi Sennheiser,

not sure how to contact you, but: Maestro _is_ NASA software. I have changed it twice on the MER page and see you change it back. Sorry for contacting you via your private page. Regards, Ken Mankoff (mankoff <at> honeybeerobotics.com)

Yes sorry about that. I don't know what I was thinking. There had been vandalism to the page earlier and I saw that you had an anonymous IP address. please accept my apologies. Thanks for notifying me! Sennheiser! 20:15, 8 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Third person

[edit]

Your use of third person to refer to yourself goes beyond precious and becomes annoying. RickK 03:05, 4 Feb 2004 (UTC)

sennheiser responds to rick's ripe riposte

[edit]

Sennheiser is sorry that you are annoyed by his use of the 3rd person. Since you took the time to insult Sennhesier, he will remember this incident and take your trite remarks into account the next time he interacts with you. Sennheiser 04:04, 4 Feb 2004 (UTC)

3rd person

[edit]

Sometimes Sennheiser talks in the third person. I recently got a note on my talk page from User:RickK. He told Sennheiser that this annoyed him. Sennheiser posted a reply to ricks page, [1] but he called it nonsense and deleted. Does the majority agree with Rickk? If so, I might be able to curtail my use of the 3rd person. (see I tried!) Sennheiser 04:14, 4 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Delirium takes no particular stance on the issue, but does note that starting a post in that way may make it appear as if you are talking about that person and are not in fact that person yourself. --Delirium 04:17, Feb 4, 2004 (UTC)
Dysprosia thinks it's cute (however if everyone starts doing it, then...). But maybe it would help to sign at the end too, just to make sure. Dysprosia 04:24, 4 Feb 2004 (UTC)
Ok (hehe) In the future Sennheiser will sign at the end. Sennheiser 04:53, 4 Feb 2004 (UTC)
It bugs me, but not enough to have ever mentioned if it you'd not asked.  :) fabiform | talk 05:02, 4 Feb 2004 (UTC)
Agree with Fabiform, as it makes it look like the talk has been archived or something. May not be as annoying if you sign at the end. Tuf-Kat 05:53, Feb 4, 2004 (UTC)
I don't mind either if you write in the third person, but it could some confusion between what is actually written by you and what has been refactored. Generally I prefer to summarise a page rather than archiving it, and when I do this I change all the comments into the third person so it's clear they weren't the person's original words. Angela. 07:05, Feb 4, 2004 (UTC)
I use 3rd person often when speaking, and sometimes when using an instantly interactive text medium (IM), but only rarely does Uther talk in the third person when the text medium is less than instantly interactive. PS. 'which' not 'witch'. You'll find it. - UtherSRG 00:33, 5 Feb 2004 (UTC)

---

I have apologised to you on Wikipedia talk:Village pump for my poor archiving of the village pump. I hope you found the FAQ in the end and know what's happened to the images, if not, drop me a line and I'll explain.  :) fabiform | talk 01:01, 5 Feb 2004 (UTC)

couple of comments regarding mediawiki messages

[edit]

I think the name MediaWiki:Vectorsite would have been more appropriate as it's actually the site's name and since vector might be needed for something else in the future. Also, I would do a {{msg:vector}} instead of {{subst:vector}} as it will be much, much easier to update the messages that way (don't have to edit all the articles that use it). Also, HR's do not look good, so I wouldn't use them. And lastly, the custom mediawiki messages are supposed to be listed at Wikipedia:MediaWiki custom messages so that others know about them. Dori | Talk 18:08, Feb 6, 2004 (UTC)

An HR is simply a straight line. You can enter one in Wikipedia by typing four dashes as in ---- and below my post. Many people, myself included, think that they are ugly and should not be included in articles. There are others who disagree of course. Dori | Talk 19:40, Feb 8, 2004 (UTC)

Short Vs Shorts

[edit]

Regarding Short Sunderland, there seems to be a wikipedia convention (which I think is wrong, but it is a convention nonetheless) that Aircraft made by the various incartations of Short Brothers aircraft are given article titles "Shorts Foo" not "Short Foo". I made the mistake of making a Stirling Bomber page when there was already a Shorts Stirling page. The folks at Wikipedia:WikiProject Aircraft can probably explain. Either way, there should be a redirect from the "unapproved" spelling to the "approved" one. -- Finlay McWalter | Talk 19:13, 6 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Response from "User talk:Jerzy/List-of-people-by-name Pages i've Organized" welcome

[edit]

Actually, i'm a new user as of '03 Sept., but another welcome is always welcome! [smile]

So far, i don't hang out at the VP, so i may look newer than i am. Or you may be confused abt the distinction between Jerzy and "Jerzy/List-of-people-by-name Pages i've Organized" (which sounds to me like part of the "Knights who say 'Neek' " routine in MP & Holy Grail). User:Jerzy/List-of-people-by-name Pages i've Organized is a sub-page of mine, and the IP editing it was me; i'm on dial-up & tend to get logged off w/o noticing when the connection is shaky.

If you are confused abt subpages, drop me a note. --Jerzy 11:08, 2004 Feb 9 (UTC)

It's probably ok as a stand-alone article now. When I redirected this version, it was too short to be an article, but now it's longer, there's not so much reason to redirect. Angela. 23:12, Feb 9, 2004 (UTC)

MediaWiki:Villagepump

[edit]

Hi, I made the request for no affiliate links a little less over the top on Template:Villagepump. I don't think the issue is such a large problem that it needs to overwhelm the page by writing it in huge red font. Angela. 23:55, Feb 9, 2004 (UTC)

Hehe, so not only did that giant red notice get put up AFTER the advertisement request got posted (despite the fact that he posted it after you last edited the VP, because you snuck it in there by editing the msg. sneaky sneaky...) but its now no longer big and red. :) So, here I sit with egg on my face. I blame you. :) --Dante Alighieri | Talk 00:21, 10 Feb 2004 (UTC)
The worst part is, that since the text on VP didn't change, and it's just a hyperlink to the current msg, if I look at the Page History for VP, there's no evidence whatsoever of a red FAQ about advertising, so I just look plain insane. :) --Dante Alighieri | Talk 00:29, 10 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Sure. Do you need it? - Sp4z 14:45, 10 Feb 2004 (UTC)

lol, I am silly. No need for a permission. It's free for use, so I only added the Copyright. (C)UPN - Sp4z 18:54, 10 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Please don't tell people that they can only upload images if they own the copyright. That's not our image use policy. See Wikipedia:Copyrights for what the policy actually is. Some examples of what your description says are not allowed but which are actually permitted are GFDL, public domain, uncopyrightable and fair use images. This image may well turn out to be fair use and entirely acceptable here, if not ideal. Jamesday 06:29, 11 Feb 2004 (UTC)

The page where I got it doesn't said something of a permission. There are other pics with the advice to ask for a permission, but not at this one, so it think that no permission is needed. Sp4z 16:16, 11 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Sure, it's [2]. The picture is on Promotional 2. I only changed the size because it was much too big. Sp4z 16:49, 11 Feb 2004 (UTC)

No problem to list as a possible copyright infringement if you don't think a use is fair but please don't do it by writing that you can only upload images you own the copyright for, because that's not our copyright policy. Better to say because you don't think it's fair use because that will give the contributor a better idea of the images we do accept and they may be able to find an alternative image. Jamesday 16:02, 11 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Well then, how about going to Image:Hmshermione2.jpg and adding that info, together with the URL (or other source) you got it from? And you could do that for all the other images you uploaded, too... Lupo 09:04, 13 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Hi there! Thanks for adding the image Image:Merbmicro1.jpg. It currently doesn't have an image copyright tag, and I was hoping that you would add one as untagged images may be deleted eventually. (You can use {{gfdl}} to license it under the GFDL, or {{fairuse}} if you claim fair use, etc.) Thanks! --Diberri | Talk 23:42, Aug 31, 2004 (UTC)

Also, how about Image:Twsub1 1.png? Quadell (talk) (help)[[]] 03:33, Nov 19, 2004 (UTC)

You uploaded Image:DESTROYERHYP.jpg. Where did you get it from? Who owns the copyright, if anyone? What is the name of the other ship? Gdr 01:24, 2004 Nov 26 (UTC)

I'm here about a picture, too.

[edit]

Howdy! I'm here because of the Humungous Image Tagging Project, and I'm curious about the copyright status of an image you uploaded, like some other people are. The picture in question is Image:12sunderland.jpg, and it doesn't currently have an image copyright tag on it. If you could tag it with something to let us know what the copyright is, that would be great. A couple of common tags are {{gfdl}}, if you made the picture and release it under the GFDL, or {{fairuse}} if you claim fair use. For a full page of these, you can go to the image copyright tags page. If none of this makes sense, you can leave a message describing the coypright status on my talk page, and I'll tag it for you. Thanks much! ^_^ --Sparky the Seventh Chaos 23:38, Dec 9, 2004 (UTC)

Netland.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Netland.jpg. I notice it currently doesn't have an image copyright tag. Could you add one to let us know its copyright status? (You can use {{gfdl}} if you release it under the GFDL, or {{fairuse}} if you claim fair use, etc.) If you don't know what any of this means, just let me know where you got the images and I'll tag them for you. Right now, I'll put it as unverified, but change it to what it's supposed to be when you get a chance. Thanks, Mattingly23 15:31, 18 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Image tag

[edit]

Hi! Thanks for uploading the following image:

I notice it currently doesn't have an image copyright tag. Could you add one to let us know its copyright status?

You can use {{gfdl}} if you wish to release your own work under the GNU Free Documentation License, {{PD-self}} if you wish to release your own work to the public domain, {{fairuse}} if you claim fair use of someone else's work, and so on. Click here for a list of the various tags.

If you don't know what any of this means, just let me know at my talk page where you got the image from, and I'll tag it for you. (And if you know exactly what this means and are really tired of the constant reminders, please excuse me. They will stop once the tagging project is complete.) Thanks so much. Denni 03:47, 2004 Dec 16 (UTC)

P.S. You can help tag other images at Wikipedia:Untagged_Images. Thanks again.

What is this image's copyright status? I notice it currently doesn't have a copyright tag. Andrew pmk 21:06, 20 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:Kurchatov.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

Image:Kurchatov.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Kurchatov.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Yonatan (contribs/talk) 22:23, 5 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image source problem with Image:East Hills Sol8 L256-A11R1.jpg

[edit]
Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:East Hills Sol8 L256-A11R1.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 15:50, 6 September 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Liftarn 15:50, 6 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Marsexpressimage.jpg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading Image:Marsexpressimage.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 16:26, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello WikiProject Space member! A discussion has been started regarding the future of WikiProject Space here; any comments you might have would be welcome! There are mainly two competing ideas:

  1. Centralize all the Space-related WikiProjects, such as Astronomy and Spaceflight, and merge them into WikiProject Space, or
  2. Separate the Astronomy and Spaceflight "sides" of WikiProject, and remove WikiProject Space.

If you can think of other options, that's great too. Your contribution to the discussion would be much appreciated. Thanks! :)
