Hello, Andris. Good to see someone taking an interest in the difference between cities and counties.

My current internet activity concerning your part of the world is Sweden on Zeal : http://www.zeal.com/category/preview.jhtml?cid=560099 - particularly the Cities & Regions subcategory, which I created. I see Zeal has no Cities & Regions subcategory for Latvia yet. Food for thought?

Kind regards, anyway.

JARINOVSKA

[edit]

Hello Andris!

On August 1, 2006, Rivza temporarily suspended Jarinovska from her position, claiming that Jarinovska had harmed the work of the Ministry by neglect of her duties (which had resulted in lengthy delays for more than 100 tasks) and violated the principles of good management and commonly accepted ethics norms. THIS SENTENCE IS COMPLETLY UNTRUE- IT WAS PROVED BY STATE CIVIL SERVANT AGENCY (Valsts Civildienesta pārvalde) OF LATVIA IN 2006. I THNIK IT WILL FOLLOW WITH CRIMINAL PROSECUTION FOR DELIBERATE DEFAMATION IF PREVIUS SENTENCE WILL NOT BE DELETED IMMEDIATELY!!!

NATO

[edit]

Hello. I just noticed your work on the History of Latvia article and something has come to my attention. While you have fixed the NATO/EU mistake, the information still sounds innacurate. There, it says Latvia is supposed to join NATO on April 2... but as you probably already know, it has just joined it (29 March). This info has been updated on Wikipedia and can be currently seem on the front page (at least, until now) and on the NATO article. Since you seem to be Latvian, I thought you maybe would like to know this, and take the necessary measures to correct the info.

Thanks for listening and welcome to Wikipedia.

Mackeriv 02:47, 30 Mar 2004 (UTC)

AP news says "The new members will take their seats at NATO's headquarters in Brussels, Belgium, on Friday." And BBC says "A second ceremony will be held at Nato's HQ in Brussels on Friday". I guess, that is what April 2 date means. I will leave History of Latvia article as it as for now and wait to see which date becomes the official one. Andris 03:23, 30 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Oh, I see. Wasn't aware of that. And yes, it must be better to wait before fixing anything.

Mackeriv 04:08, 30 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Thanks for the input, Andris. I'll fix the joining date if I see it wrong somewhere else.

region or land

[edit]

I found your edit on Livonia via Recent changes.

I guess you have a reason for calling it "a historical region" in the first line and then "a land" a few lines down. Isn't "historical land of the Livonians" more appropriate and fully in accordance with what you write? I'm just curious!

But I changed "Finnish" to "Finnic". It's just a convention, but they weren't Finnish yet if they were still in Balticum, if you see my drift. :-)

Cricket

[edit]

Well, the bit about 'endangering spectators' is clearly drivel, but just in case this was a sarcastic comment about a bowler who gave up too many wides, I checked a reliable source. Wisden is the bible of cricket, and on the net it's Wisden Cricinfo. According to their lists of Sri Lankan cricketers, there are quite a few Dissanayakes who have played first class cricket, but none were called Wenura. Checking a few test results from the period stated, I saw no Wenura Dissanayake. Therefore I can only conclude that this is some sort of joke, and a candidate for speedy deletion. Theodore Tylor was a chess player - and I note your useful link to that effect. However, he was also a lawyer. Does this mean he should have a second link to lawyers?

In Wikipedia talk:Categorization, you mentioned a bunch of categories, but failed to put the : in front of it (i.e., [[Category instead of [[:Category, which caused your comment to be confusing and the talk page to be put in the categories. OK, I admit that I have never heard of quantum electrochemistry, chemistry isn't my field, and the wikipedia articles on quantum electrochemistry and Revaz Dogonadze seemed convincing enough that this is a real area of research in chemistry. re: insanity templates

[edit]

Good morning, Andris. I noticed on VfD that you voted to keep the insanity templates. Could I ask you to elaborate on your reasons? I feel pretty strongly that these templates are detrimental to the community and make it harder to maintain the necessary standards of civility. I'd like to understand your thoughts so that I can see if I can address your concerns. Thanks. Rossami 15:18, 19 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Cold Fusion

[edit]

Hello Andris,

I noticed you corrected my "correction" on the cold fusion page. As I understand it, a deuterium-tritium reaction results in the creation of the nuclear byproducts that you talked about (it results in the release of an extra neutron; it is the neutron that collides with the container walls to create the radioactivity.) (A side note: The tritium is already radioactive.) A pure deuterium-deuterium reaction would avoid this as no extra neutron is release, helium being the only byproduct. If I am incorrect in this, I am sorry, I will not revise the page again.

Regards, Kenton

Andris,

I have looked at the web page you referenced. It does indeed state that a D-D reaction can produce an extra neutron. If you read further down the same page, it goes on to say that the only radioactivity concern is actually the Tritium produced in the other reaction (reaction #4 on the site you referenced. Tritium has a relatively short half life (12 years) and is quite easy to control as containment of a reasonably short length of time is sufficient, compared to the products of fission (and the Tritium is now free to participate in a D-T reaction.) The extra neutron of reaction #3 does not seem to be of major concern. My main concern is that the original article gave the impression that some really nasty stuff is created through fusion, while the truth is that fusion would be infinitely cleaner and safer than the fission reactions our current power plants are based on. I am worried that a good idea may face unwarranted opposition.

I have referred the radioactivity question to Bjoern for his opinion. He is a PhD. in physics with some nuclear background and may be able to shed some light. (He certainly has experience beyond my meagre education.)

Kenton

Andris,

Bjoern has looked into the question for me and it turns out there is no way around the production of excess neutrons, and by extension radioactive isotopes. Too bad, I had high hopes. Perhaps the reactor containment could be constructed of a material that produces waste of a very short half life when it absorbs neutrons. This would help to make the situation manageable. I'm digressing, but I still have hope.

Thanks again for your input. It looks like my optimistic edit was premature and the page will remain as written.

Well, I suppse the best way to do it would be to speak to some other admins, set some date, say 7 or 10 or 14 days before the election (whatever seems reasonable) and do it. Dont let anyone know about this, as it is going to cause a mad rush to make all kinds of crazy changes before the deadline. Realistcaly, nothing earth shateering is going to happen a week or two before the election, and if something noteworth does happen, it would not be a big problem to add it in. Article Licensing

[edit]

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 1000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

OR

Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. WikiProject Ice Hockey Newsletter

Dear Andris! You are receiving this newsletter because you have signed up as a member of WikiProject Ice Hockey. The purpose of this newsletter is to update on the goings on of the project, as there have been major changes, and a lot of new recognized content in the past few weeks. If you are an inactive user, you probably won't recognize the new and improved state of the WikiProject!

From the project, Maxim.

New recognized content

By Maxim
There have been a lot more Good and Featured articles written in the past few weeks. Here is a list:[1][2][3][4]

Featured articles
Good articles
Featured lists[5]
Notes
 1. ^ All articles are in order of promotion, as written on the main WikiProject page; FA's have official dates of promotions.
 2. ^ A star represents a featured article or list
 3. ^ A green circle represents a good article
 4. ^ Stanley Cup is an A-Class article
 5. ^ The lists system differs from articles, and doesn't give an official date of promotion
Article Improvement

By Maxim

Upon some discussion on the WikiProject talk page, the Article Improvement Drive page was revamped by Krm500 and Maxim. It was renamed Wikipedia:WikiProject Ice Hockey/Article Improvement, and it includes two section. The first section is called articles in dire need of improvement. It list articles, usually important, that are in very poor shape. The second section is called requested help. Users list an article they request help improving a certain article, which will facilitate collaboration, which is the aim of any WikiProject. There is one article currently listed there, Henrik Lundqvist, here. The goal is to at least get it to Good article status.

Diacritics

By Maxim

In the past few weeks, there has been quite heated discussion about the use of diacritics in article name. The current guideline is using diacritics in the pages of articles of all player names which require them, but redirects are exempt.

Task forces

By Maxim
There have been two new task forces started within the WikiProject to coordinate major topics.

Sweden Ice Hockey task force

This task force was initiated by Krm500. Its current goal is to improve Henrik Lundqvist to Good or Featured article status. It covers all Swedish clubs, leagues and competitions and associated articles, players and coaches that are Swedish, or have played/coached for a Swedish club, and arenas in Sweden. They plan to eventually operate as a sort of a sub-project, which will have its own articles for creation, ranking importance and quality of articles, and co-ordinate article improvement. Its current members are Krm500, Bamsefar75, and CLAES.

New Jersey Devils task force

This task force was initiated by Bsroiaadn. Its goal is to improve New Jersey Devils to Featured Topic status. Although it currently meets the required article count, the task force wishes to improve it further. Its area of coverage is very similar to the Sweden Ice Hockey task force. Its members are Bsroiaadn, JHMM13, FutureNJGov, Sportskido8, Michael Greiner, JRWalko, and Soxrock.

Requested Images

By Maxim
After discussion on the WikiProject talk page, Serte created a page for Requested Images. The page encourages users to license images for use on articles. The page also has section to request images for players, arenas, game situations, miscellaneous, and team and league logos. The page has been quite popular; since it was created on July 21, there have been six completed requests. There are four currently outstanding requests:

Article assessement completed

By Maxim
On July 12, Kaiser matias announced that he had completed assessing all the articles with a ice hockey tag, sorting them into Category:Unassessed Ice Hockey articles. Kaiser matias has ranked about 9000 articles in that category, and most were stubs, and "have no information at all", according to him. Everybody is encouraged to expand the stubs into real articles. This effort took around 5 months. A big thanks goes to Kaiser matias from me and all the project.

New recognized content

By Maxim

Especially due to the featured topic drive, there have been many new featured lists promoted concerning NHL awards. Here's the full list of all the 13 FL's promoted since the last newsletter.[1][2]

 1. Hart Memorial Trophy
 2. James Norris Memorial Trophy
 3. Vezina Trophy
 4. Conn Smythe Trophy
 5. Frank J. Selke Trophy
 6. Lady Byng Memorial Trophy
 7. Lester B. Pearson Award
 8. Calder Memorial Trophy
 9. Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy
 10. King Clancy Memorial Trophy
 11. Jack Adams Award
 12. Presidents' Trophy
 13. List of Calgary Flames players

There have been no new good articles or featured articles. Maurice 'Rocket' Richard Trophy has been given A-Class status due to multiple issues raised at FLC.

 1. ^ The last one, List of Calgary Flames players, is the only one not associated with the featured topic drive.
 2. ^ At the time of publishing, there were 5 lists at WP:FLC and 2 lists in the "Holding cell", as there's been an accepted guideline to not put more that 5 trophy lists at the same time to, "compensate for the sanity of the reviewers".
Did You Know?

By Maxim
There have been 4 new articles featured in the Did You Know section? on the Main Page since August.

Featured Topic Drive

By Maxim

Started by User:Scorpion0422, the aim of this drive is to make NHL awards a featured topic. A featured topic is basically a set of very high quality articles (good articles and featured articles/lists). In this case, the topic is NHL awards. Many users have helped, including Scorpion0422, Resolute, Serte, Hasek is the best, Maxim, Croat Canuck, Spike Wilbury, FutureNJGov, and T Rex/Dinosaur puppy. The progress has been very good; there are 12 featured lists promoted, and 2 good articles:

 1. Hart Memorial Trophy (Scorpion)
 2. James Norris Memorial Trophy (Scorpion)
 3. Vezina Trophy (Scorpion)
 4. Conn Smythe Trophy (Serte)
 5. Frank J. Selke Trophy (FutureNJGov)
 6. Lady Byng Memorial Trophy (Scorpion)
 7. Lester B. Pearson Award (Scorpion)
 8. Calder Memorial Trophy (Croat Canuck)
 9. Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy (Maxim)
 10. King Clancy Memorial Trophy (Maxim)
 11. Jack Adams Award (Maxim)
 12. Presidents' Trophy (Scorpion)
 13. Stanley Cup (Earlier collaboration, very many involved)
 14. Traditions and anecdotes associated with the Stanley Cup (Maxim)

Check the project page if you are interested in helping out. Although it's closer to being done than not, there's still work to be done. The next topic that might be tackled is Stanley Cup, but this remains purely speculative and in discussion.

Dainis Īvāns

Hello, Andris!

I have deleted the libellous information in the article inserted by you (see subject), regarding the case about using government money inappropriately. These claims are just groundless. Please provide the source for these accusations.

Unreferenced BLPs

[edit]

Hello Andris! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 7 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 272 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the unreferencedBLP tag. Here is the list:

Suspension of admin privileges due to inactivity

[edit]

Following a community discussion in June 2011, consensus was reached to provisionally suspend the administrative privileges of users who have been inactive for one year, meaning administrators who have made neither any edits nor any logged actions in over one year. As a result of this discussion, your administrative privileges have been removed pending your return. If you wish to have these privileges reinstated, please post to the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard and the userright will be restored per the re-sysopping process (i.e., as long as the attending bureaucrats are reasonably satisfied that your account has not been compromised and that your inactivity did not have the effect of evading scrutiny of any actions which might have led to sanctions). This removal of access is procedural only, and not intended to reflect negatively upon you in any way. We wish you the best in future endeavors, and thank you for your past administrative efforts. Notice of change

[edit]

Hello. You are receiving this message because of a recent change to the administrator policy that alters what you were told at the time of your desysopping. The effect of the change is that you will not longer be able to request restoration of the tools because of your prior inactivity. You have until December 30, 2012 to request restoration or else the policy will prevent you from doing so in the future; you would need to seek a new WP:RFA. Until December 30, you can file a request at WP:BN for review by the crats. Thank you. MBisanz talk 04:22, 3 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
