How we will see unregistered users
[edit]Hi!
You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.
When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.
Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.
If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.
We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.
Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

- Hewitt writes that he first noticed Taylor during the junior playoffs at the end of the 1903-04 season, and the suspension was for the 1904-05 season. This alert was warranted by this insertion with a WP:FAKE citation. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 14:01, 7 June 2022 (UTC)
- @Kautilya3: Can you clarify why this source is considered fake? From what I see the source is legitimate, and the information was correct. And as of this reply the source is still in the article, so an explanation would be appreciated. Kaiser matias (talk) 14:32, 7 June 2022 (UTC)
- The source says nothing about the content you added, which is what is meant by WP:FAKE. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 14:34, 7 June 2022 (UTC)
- @Kautilya3: My reading of this paragraph suggests otherwise: "In the complaint, it has been mentioned, 'She used abusive, false and hurtful words against the Prophet and religion of Islam and hurt the feelings of Muslims. By derisively insulting religious beliefs mentioned in the Holy Quran and stating that Prophet Mohammed married a 6-year-old and was having sex with her at age 9, she not only hurt the feelings of Muslims but also created enmity between different sections of society.'" If you think otherwise I'm happy to be corrected, as I certainly wasn't trying to add anything fake or misleading, but to get accurate information relating to the comments, which are hard to find in legitimate sources. Kaiser matias (talk) 15:29, 7 June 2022 (UTC)
- Oh, sorry. You are right. I looked for "Aisha", which wasn't there. But, in any case, this is quoted from a complaint in the source, and so can't be put into Wikipedia voice. Deletion of a page
[edit]This was absolutely inappropriate, especially since you immediately turned around and restored the content that was previously there. I have restored the history of the article, and hope that this sort of thing does not happen again. Primefac (talk) 21:25, 21 August 2022 (UTC)
- @Primefac: That was my bad, yes. I initially just saw the redirect, and thought it was simply that. Then didn't think about restoring it properly, not used to that is all. Thanks for cleaning it up though. Kaiser matias (talk) 21:33, 21 August 2022 (UTC)
- While the recreation-without-restoration was problematic, the deletion itself was out-of-process as well (see Wikipedia_talk:Criteria_for_speedy_deletion#Just_a_dumb_clarification_question). J18 Allsv
[edit]Hey, I saw you changed the shortform of J18 Allsv to J18-2 on David Pastrnak's page. I don't think J18-2 would be appropriate since that would mean the J18 Allsv is the 2nd tier U18 league. The J18 Allsv is actually a "higher" tier than the J18 Elit. The top teams, based on standings in the Elit, move on to the J18 Allsv and the champion of the J18 Allsv is the U18 champion in Sweden. Just wanted to pass on that information to you!

Thank you today for Cyclone Taylor, introduced (in 2022): "The third nomination, following failed attempts back in December 2019 and February 2020. The first real ice hockey star, Cyclone Taylor was once the highest-paid athlete in the world, on a per game basis, and his legacy is quite important to the development of the sport. He also had a fairly notable off-ice career as well working as a Canadian immigration officer." --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:10, 23 June 2024 (UTC)
